Do I Need to See an Orthodontist?
An orthodontist isn’t just here to straighten your smile. In fact, most of orthodontics are rooted in creating a healthy bite. If you have an overbite or underbite, orthodontic treatment can be beneficial. Closing gaps and other forms of misalignment can also restore the appearance and function of your smile. If you are visiting your dentist twice a year, they may suggest seeing an orthodontist. However, if you have concerns about your smile, reaching out to our orthodontist can be a great option.
What are My Orthodontic Options?
Each case is unique. So, there are several options available. Early treatment is intended for younger children. A child should receive their first orthodontic screening by the time they’re seven years old. This allows our doctors to catch any developing issues and work to treat them without long-term consequences.
Braces are a traditional option with brackets and wires. Brackets are strategically cemented to the teeth. Wires and bands are then used to apply pressure with precision. Over time, this pressure will shift teeth. It is a similar situation with Invisalign. However, Invisalign is a series of custom-made aligners that are swapped every few weeks to redistribute pressure and encourage the appropriate shifting. If a case is more severe, other actions will be taken after our orthodontist completes a thorough evaluation.
